Dealing With A Yeast Infection By: Brittney L Dunn
Do you know what causes yeast infection? It is the fungi present in your skin. The fungi thrive in moist environment. The damper it gets, the more it enjoys. Yeast infection happens when you change the area of fungal growth. The entry point of organisms is where the skin has broken. Otherwise the skin is equipped to handle any fungal invasion.
You might find it silly, but yeast infection occurs to only adult women but never to children. Thrush of the mouth may occur in children but it does not affect any other part.
Parents have surely heard of such misconceptions sometime during the growing years of their child. Children, like any of us, may be prone to be infected by Candida, which need not be only in the mouth area. For such infections to occur, a warm and moist environment is needed.
Causes of yeast infection:
Candida thrives in an area where the area is wet and moist. Where else does it find such a place other than the diaper of your toddler who is just beginning to learn good toilet habits?
Candida thrives in wet and moist environment. So those cute folds and the areas which are normally covered by diapers are places where it grows. What does it look like?
Well, not very different from thrush with the same white lumpy appearance and smells a bit like baking bread. As a preventive step against yeast infections, keep the baby dry and clean all the time, especially during the warm and humid summer months.
Candida prospers in the several folds of the genital area of women. This is why yeast infection is mostly seen in women. Boy babies can also get affected by it since the same heat-trapping diapers are worn by them too.
Did you know that the same condition which is responsible for diaper rash is applicable to Candida overgrowth also? So the preventive measures for both baby girl and boy ought to be the same too.
Early signs of yeast infection:
The locality of the yeast infection would be the deciding factor in the symptoms. If the infection occurs in the vagina then the woman would feel a burning sensation accompanied by a vaginal discharge which is thick and white or thin and watery. What are the symptoms when the infected area is the mouth?
You could see some thick white patches on top of swollen red skin in the mouth. Though it may not itch as it does with other outer skin infections, but the area becomes very sensitive and may even bleed with the removal of the white part. Because this causes pain during eating and drinking, ensure the child is well hydrated.
You need to remain ever alert for the early signs of yeast infections. It may not be fatal, but if you do not attend to it at the right time, might develop into something worse at a later stage. The symptoms mentioned above are the most common but make an appointment with your doctor if you have any problems.
